STAM is a non-profit organization, officially registered with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (ROS) on 30th October 2015.
STAM is founded by a few passionate and professional Aquatic Educators in Malaysia with the primary aim to educate the public on the importance of water safety, to enhance aquatic education, to maintain professional standards of aquatic educators in line with international guidelines, and to promote a standardized & systematic aquatic education in Malaysia.
STAM is dedicated to promote aquatic education programs including People with Disabilities, Baby and Pre-school, water safety and drowning prevention awareness to the public. The tutors have professional qualifications from STA, UK and have many years of practical experience in the aquatic fields.
STAM is a member of the IFSTA (International Federation of Swimming Teachers’ Association), based in UK of which consisted of swimming associations from all over the world. Alongside with IFSTA, STAM has plans to conduct activities, seminars and events in Malaysia.
STAM’s Vision of a Nation Where Everybody Enjoys Quality Aquatic Education with Safe Practices.
1. To ensure all Malaysian Swimming Teachers or Aquatic Educators are professionally certified Teachers.
2. To introduce aquatic education programs to all age group.
3. To be acknowledged as a world class Swimming Teachers Association.
4. To promote and create awareness on drowning prevention and aquatic water safety to the public.
1. To educate the public on the importance of water safety practices in all aquatic relevant activities as well as the environmental safety where the activities are being conducted.
2. To promote, enhance and help maintain the professional standards, welfare and the competency of Aquatic Educators through education and certification.
3. To promote and standardize and set systematic aquatic education programs to the public, including programs such as The Infant & Toddler Aquatic Education programs and The Water Safety & Aquatic Education for the Disabled.
4. To encourage and promote aquatic education to all Malaysians.
5. To work with other Bodies/Associations/Foundations to create aquatic awareness and education.
Membership of the Swimming Teachers’ Association of Malaysia is available to all who are interested in the preservation of human life by teaching swimming, lifesaving and survival techniques.
Applicants for membership of the Swimming Teachers' Association of Malaysia do not have to be qualified with STA certification, as we recognize acceptable equivalent qualifications from many other organizations in Malaysia and overseas.
Application as Associate memberships from our public whom wish to help promote aquatic education programs, drowning prevention and water safety are most welcome.
Holders of this Award can teach up to 10 beginners. They may deliver the STAnley Series of awards and also the Octopus and Goldfish Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme. |

They may act as an assistant swimming teacher and may teach larger classes or advanced skills under the direct supervision of a swimming teacher qualified to certificate level. |

Pre-requisites-Be 16 years of age or older -Able to swim Front Crawl, Back Stroke and Breast Stroke for 25 metres -Open to Public -Bronze Medallion/International Life Saving Society (ILS) Certified* -Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certified* Note: *Arrangement can be made for those without BM, ILS and CPR to be qualified prior to the STA Award practical attachment. |

The STA Certificate in Swimming Teaching aims to prepare holders to teach, without supervision, pupils of all levels. |

Pre-requisites-Be 17 years of age or older -Hold current MEMBERSHIP of Swimming Teachers' Association of Malaysia -Bronze Medallion/ILS Certificate -CPR Certified -Able to swim Front Crawl, Back Stroke, Breast Stroke and Butterfly for 50 metres -Hold the STA Basic Teachers Certification or STA Award in Swimming Teaching or acceptable equivalent Swimming Teaching Certification |

Holders of People with Disabilities qualification can teach basic aquatic skills to individuals and groups and will understand the correct care and handling those with special needs. |

The Baby and Pre- School qualification aims to produce teachers that can teach aquatic activities, including paddle strokes to babies and pre – school children during adult and children lessons. |

They are able to deliver the STA Starfish programme up to the STAnley Series of STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme. |
