Anyone passionate about swimming education and water safety, including swim instructors, coaches, lifeguards, and swim schools, can become a member or affiliate of STAM.
STAM offers the Aquatic Educator’s Certification (AEC) Level 1 and Level 2, LSS Life Saving, Bronze Medallion, Basic FIrst Aid, CPR as Uitemate course. Find out more in our Courses tab.
STAM certifications are nationally recognized (IFSTA), ensuring credibility, professional growth, and access to the latest teaching standards and best practices.
Joining STAM gives you professional recognition, access to certified training courses, workshops, social events, competitions, swim meets, and the credibility of being part of Malaysia’s body for swimming education and water safety. It also provides ongoing development, networking opportunities, and internationally aligned standards to help you grow as an instructor or swim school.
AEC Level 1 is an entry-level course that equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills to start teaching swimming. No prior teaching experience is required however must be minimum age of 16 years old. However, to be certified, one must be able to perform at least three swim strokes (25m), and will have to undergo Basic First Aid and CPR, Bronze Medallion or International Life Saving (ILS). There will also be a practical examination as well as attachment hours.
Level 1 covers the foundations of teaching, safety, and beginner strokes, while Level 2 focuses on advanced techniques, stroke correction, managing higher-level swimmers as well as teaching AEC Level 1 course.

Yes, international participants are welcome to join STAM courses, provided they meet the basic requirements for enrollment.
